3D performance is the result of an internal benchmark the game does. It doesn't affect the visuals or performance. You can modify the two render distances either in the config file or by changing the overall quality preset in the game settings. The server will override it though if it's higher than the server's settings.

They all had really good roaming AI that were fairly common across the entire map, not just certain spots. I don't know if its just a result of poor implementation by server owners now, or what.
