So I’m started dark souls yesterday and I’ve been playing nearly constantly. It’s epic. I’ve got the uchigatana upgraded to +5, since that is what I’ve read to do. But after that chaos, fire, raw damage etc is overwhelming and I don’t wanna do anything I’ll regret. At the moment I’m not look by for PvP, just complete the game.Standard weapons (which the Uchi is) can go up to +15, but every fifth upgrade requires "ascension" by a blacksmith. To go from +5 to +6, you need to give Andre the Large Ember and then have him ascend your weapon. +10 to +11 is also done by Andre and requires another Ember. The uchigatana is still a perfectly good weapon though, and you'll probably not find anything strictly 'better'. No reason to switch weapons, unless you're just getting bored of katanas in general. I was going to switch to a scythe but I still like my katana build so I'll just keep chipping away at it. Yes it’s variable depending on stats. Raw deletes scaling entirely. Sharp uchi if you are going DEX at 40 DEX sharp uchi is great , but if you are at the required stats and dont want to invest into DEX then ( like you are going pyro or magic but want to have a physical weapon ) then go raw.
