Rykard. I read that this is kind of a FromSoft thing to have a cheese boss, and I beat him using the stun lock spear strat, but I wonder if they really intended for that to be how you beat him. Out of curiosity I checked to see if there were playthroughs on YouTube not using the spear, and the only other one I saw used magic.

It may take a couple of tries before you get dodge timing right, but as soon as you get the hang of his attacks (and maybe with a bit of help from some Mimic Tear cheese and upgrading the Serpent-Hunter), the fight becomes easier. Spamming colossal sword crouch poke is for sure more cringe than utilizing the whole great spear moveset, not questioning that.
