Imho daggers = more crit, less crit damage. Swords = less crits, more crit damage (because more weapon damage). Let's be extremely precise in our use of terms. The situation of course matters (build, class, target, group comp, etc), but if I had to narrow it down, it would be daggers for PVE and maces for PVP.
