The duramax engine has a long history of breaking cranks at that location. This is so much of a common issue that people have created cam shafts with altered firing orders to try to remove the stress from that point on the crank. Plenty of stock trucks have broken cranks like this.

Pour the CLR into the bucket and add the steel lines. let them sit like 30 to 45 minutes. The rust is gone and lines look new. Take a dremel with a small cup wire brush and clean the flares and inside the nuts (Threads) with it, swish around in the CLR again and then wash them good with Water.

If you think it might be a rod bearing, pull the filter cut it open, unroll the filter media and take a look for metal, you can also order an oil sample kit, take the sample send it in and it will also tell the tale, if its a bearing.
