The admit rates are dramatically different. Colby accepts just 13%, while Kenyon College admitted 36% last year. If your interest is about the same for both schoools, then consider an ED app to Colby College & an RD app to Kenyon College. However, check to see if either school offers EDII as an application option.

Kenyon is better known, generally, back east than Grinnell is - a generalization, but east coast folks will go to Ohio but Iowa is a tougher sell (I am from east coast originally and moved to midwest about 15 years ago). Both student bodies seem pretty similar - a little quirky but lots of regular, smart, interesting kids.<p>Kenyon has a national championship men’s & women’s swim team, but I haven’t seen this mentioned in any posts. DD is a good h.s. swimmer looking for a college where she can swim & get a good education. Lafayette and Denison are more similar in size of student body – Lafayette around 2500 and Denison around 2300, while Kenyon is around 1800. Perhaps look at gen eds, minors/concentrations etc. of interest, career development offices. Of course, I’ve written extensively about how wonderful Denison was for my kid. But all great choices here!

I agree with whomever suggested Kenyon is the odd man out here. It is also more preppy, wealthy and athletic than the other two IMO. Kenyon has (by far) the smallest number of poor and middle-class kids; all three have comparable numbers of top 1% and top 10% families, but Amherst almost certainly has the most 0.1 and 0.01% types.
